Quantum Dot Agricultural Films

Dmain-12_edited.jpg

Today, many farmers around the world cultivate plants in agricultural greenhouses. Properly controlling the greenhouse environment makes it possible to increase plant yields and quality, shorten cultivation periods, and adjust harvest schedules. Agricultural film plays a role in building such greenhouse environments. Attempts have been made to convert harmful ultraviolet rays into light wavelengths suitable for photosynthesis using conventional agricultural films, but the visible light transmittance and intensity after wavelength conversion have been proven to be insufficient.

Recent years have seen the development of quantum dot agricultural films aimed at promoting plant growth by using quantum dots to control the light spectrum. Using quantum dots to tune the band gap of sunlight (i.e., the energy spread of the forbidden band in the band structure of the crystal, which forms an insulator if wide and a semiconductor if narrow), efforts are underway to promote the plant growth cycle by converting sunlight into light of suitable wavelength and intensity for the growth process of plants.
